Mimi is a zealous explorer, educator and performer. As a dedicated student of mind and body training, she’s traveled the world and the United States studying her big loves: yoga and aerial dance.
She has nearly a decade of teaching experience at Hothouse Yoga in Iowa City and at National Dance Academy in Coralville. She developed the aerial dance program at NDA and is a pioneer in the Eastern Iowa aerial community. Mimi has a strong passion for the art of movement and sharing the vast possibilities of aerial dance with her students.
As a child Mimi visited Splendid China, a now demolished theme park near Disney World. Although its miniature version of the Great Wall failed to impress her, it was there that she saw circus for the first time. Her parents bought her the soundtrack of the Chinese circus, and she spent the next few weeks listening to the CD on repeat and dancing around the living room. Although she didn’t touch an aerial apparatus until her mid-20’s, Mimi has dreamed about flying through the air and joining the circus since she was a little girl. Last summer, Mimi relocated to Boulder, Colorado to attend a 9 month professional training program at Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance under the tutelage of Nancy E. Smith.
Mimi’s favorite part of teaching is encouraging students to believe in themselves and watching their transformation. She seeks to create an environment where both play, safety and technique intersect.
