James has been practicing yoga for 7 years, having a foundation in Yoga Nidra, Yin and Restorative styles, which progressed to incorporate asana combined with vinyasa, pranayama, meditation and mantra. He completed his 200 hr RYT yoga teacher training at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA. James is also the founder of Bridges Through Yoga an organization that brings yoga to where people are and Person of Color led also facilities conversations about race through yoga.
James aims to create a safe space to explore yoga with open and accessible classes for students who are diverse in gender, race, religion, age and ability. As an African American male he feels it is important to create access and opportunities for people of color to explore yoga. Yoga has the ability to loosen the hold of trauma, in any form, that prevents us from living our lives to its fullest.
He teaches in the Himalayan tradition, rooted in dynamic and flowing sequences of asanas, a strong emphasis on diaphragmatic breathing, pranayama and systematic relaxation. Over the course of his classes students will cultivate a deeper connection with the breath and the body. You can practice more with James at One Yoga in South Minneapolis and Edina Community Center.
Meet James assistant, Nicole Nardone:
Nicole learned to read and balance chakras at the same time she was learning to tie her shoes. The spiritual realm has always been a part of her life. Raised around yogis, healers, and wild women, Nicole has a strong background in all things Sacred.
Kundalini Yoga was a natural fit when she discovered it in 2003. It took all her childhood learning and training to another level. It was here she experienced all the trauma and drama melt away from her nervous system. She felt the “kiss of Spirit on the body”. Nicole now dedicates her life to celebrating what is sacred (everything) and helping others reclaim and reconnect with that sacredness within them, cell by beautiful cell.
Her offerings are filled with the heart, passion, and joy of someone who has truly come alive. She delights in lovingly coaxing people to the edge of their comfortable cages and feeling them leap into uncharted territories of expansion, joy, and creative flow. Her classes combine deep grounding with cosmic expansion, the physical and the infinite, laughter and deep reverence.
Nicole lives in Minneapolis where she worships the moon and talks to trees.
